So what is your goal?

Okay, so if you are not into football, you are probably groaning now that I am making an allusion to the World Cup presently gracing much of our TV screens. “Give me Brazil” you might say, “but make it the beaches and the rainforest, not 22 guys kicking a ball around!”

In asking though, “so what is your goal?”, I am not about to use that as an excuse to make this a soccer saturated commentary. Rather we are almost halfway through this year and so perhaps it is good for us all to find some moments to…..

stop….. be still….reflect…..

how is the year going?    so what is your goal?

What are we all aiming at? Is this something good?

Are we being driven or led? (you might ask what this means – I leave it for you to ponder on)

One of the earliest followers of Christ penned these words, “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10)

Firstly, as we read these words, have we encountered Jesus Christ? Can we say that with His help, we are seeking to follow Him?

If yes, do we see that our goal(s) are not just to be random but are part of seeking to honour Him with our lives?  Not that we should see God’s plans like fatalistic orders as if we are passive chess pieces. Rather these are crafted plans that can only truly be expressed through people like you and me. Will we do our part to find out what these are and then ask for His help to carry these out?

The World Cup will be over in a couple of weeks – someone will have won but then the media world will move on. Our lives will continue – so what is your goal?
